Screenpipe and UiPath: workflow discovery capabilities
Capability
Screenpipe
UiPath
Starting point
Ongoing background capture while enabled, with pause and exclusion controls.
Record variations of a known task for comparison.
Work evidence
Searchable screen and audio history across apps.
Desktop actions, screenshots, task graphs, and step statistics.
Review and output
Retrieve evidence to draft procedures, then confirm decisions with the operator.
Merge and annotate traces; export PDD documentation and Studio XAML.
AI and automation
Local API and MCP for context in your chosen agent stack. Scope execution separately.
Task analysis feeds UiPath development; the exported skeleton needs implementation.
Data handling
Local capture and search. Hosted features have separate processing paths.

02 / From evidence to a usable procedure
Keep the history behind the handoff
An invoice exception might involve an ERP screen, a spreadsheet, and a conversation with the account owner. Screenpipe lets you retrieve that context and review how the work happened. Use the evidence to write instructions that include the exception, then have another person try them.
Compare the task, then decide what to build
UiPath Task Mining is useful when an analyst has identified a task and wants to understand its variations. Screenpipe fits teams that want reusable work history for their own analysis and agents. Neither a task graph nor a recording proves that a workflow is ready to run unattended.
Consider Screenpipe when you want to
Recover a workflow from searchable screen and audio history.
Give your chosen AI tools access to relevant work context.
Review decisions and exceptions with the person doing the work.
Consider UiPath when you want to
Compare and merge task traces into an editable task graph.
Export documentation and a Studio automation skeleton.
Connect task analysis with an existing UiPath program.
03 / Before you decide
Questions for your evaluation.
Is Screenpipe a UiPath Task Mining alternative?
It can be, when the requirement is capturing work and retrieving context for process review or custom AI workflows. UiPath Task Mining is a closer fit when you need merged task traces and Studio exports within a UiPath program. Test the output your team actually needs.
How is Task Mining different from Process Mining?
UiPath Task Mining examines desktop task variations. Process Mining analyzes business-system event logs to understand broader process flows. Choose the evidence source that fits the question; screen capture alone does not replace system event-log analysis.
Can Screenpipe replace an entire RPA platform?
This comparison covers capture, workflow discovery, and context for AI tools. A production automation also needs execution, credentials, permissions, exception handling, and monitoring. Scope those requirements separately; captured history is not a deployed bot.
Can our own agents use the captured context?
Screenpipe exposes captured history through a local API and MCP. Your team can retrieve relevant evidence for its chosen AI tools, review the procedure with its owner, and test the resulting workflow. Connecting an agent does not grant it permission to act in business systems.
Does everything stay on the device?
Screenpipe supports local capture and search. Hosted AI, sync, voice services, and Enterprise team features have separate data paths. Agree capture exclusions, retention, processing, and sharing for your rollout. Customer-owned storage with hosted processing is not a fully on-premises deployment.
Can Screenpipe ask questions while someone works?
Real-time contextual questioning is experimental. Confirm availability for your pilot. Review the captured work with its owner to explain decisions and exceptions before using the procedure for training or automation.

UiPath Task Mining documentation: Known-task scope, traces, review, and exports.
UiPath Process Intelligence: Broader Process Mining, Task Mining, and orchestration context.
Capture the same representative task in both products. Include a common exception. Measure capture and editing effort, missing decisions, and successful completion by the next person or agent. Include review and correction time.
Agree app coverage, data handling, and execution permissions before the pilot. Compare the full rollout cost with the output you need.
