screenpipe principles

Why screenpipe exists

I am fanatical about building tools that augment humans.

Louis Beaumont

At 13, I was diagnosed with leukemia. I almost died several times. Since then, I have understood the value of time and have been grateful to be alive every day of my life.

I want us to live as long as possible, explore the universe, expand our consciousness, broaden what is possible to experience, and love everything more deeply.

screenpipe is one step in that direction.

What we are building

AI needs context about how people actually work. Most of that context appears on our screens, in our conversations, and across the tools we use every day.

screenpipe captures what you see, say, and hear on your computer. It turns that into memory your AI can use. The data stays under your control.

We are building technology that gives people more time, better memory, and more agency.

How we work

Truth over comfort

We tell the truth even when it is uncomfortable. We use evidence. We change our minds when the evidence changes.

We admit mistakes and correct them.

Positive sum by default

Competition is good. It forces us to perform and build better products.

We compete through our work. We do not astroturf, fake support, coordinate attacks, or lie about competitors. We avoid zero sum games when cooperation creates more value for everyone.

Technology should augment humans

We build tools that increase human agency.

People should control their own data and decide how it is used. We do not build surveillance or attention traps.

Meritocracy

Execution matters more than credentials. Results matter more than pedigree.

Ideas should be judged by whether they work. People should be judged by their work, honesty, judgment, and ability to improve.

Transparency

We explain our decisions. We share what we learn. We make it easy for people to understand what our software does.

Secrecy creates fragility. Transparency creates trust.

Health

Health is the substrate.

We care about performance over decades. Burnout is not proof of commitment.

Hyperstition

We think about futures that do not exist yet, then work to make them real.

Optimism gives us energy. Truth tells us where to aim.

The mission

Build technology that gives people more time, memory, and agency.

Accelerate machine intelligence while keeping humans in control of the systems that augment them.

Work on problems large enough to matter.

Compete hard. Tell the truth. Create more than we destroy.
