Rock solid before fancy

One thing before the release notes.

screenpipe is moving to a subscription model. After a lot of work, this is the change we're making to build the best product for the long term.

  • If you already have a lifetime license: nothing changes. You keep the app forever, no subscription required.
  • If you're on Pro: your plan converts to the equivalent new Pro at a similar price.

Lifetime access is still available at the current price for a little longer. Once we make the switch, it's gone. Get lifetime access.

What's new on screenpipe this week?

You told us you want screenpipe to be rock solid before it is fancy. This release is almost entirely that: fewer crashes, lighter on your machine, and stronger privacy.

Your agents can only act on what they can see. screenpipe is the local-first memory layer that captures it, now more stable and more private than before.

🪨 Stable

  • Retired several of the most common crashes: a database open failure, a null-model crash in the AI assistant, a microphone crash, and a crash that could happen during auto-restart.
  • Screen capture now recovers correctly when the app starts on a locked screen, so you do not come back to a dead recorder.
  • Screenshot compression problems no longer take the app down.
  • Windows USB microphones (for example the Logitech C922) no longer go silent when echo cancellation is on.
  • Quieter logs, plus an automatic retry when capture starts right after you grant microphone permission.
  • Apple OCR no longer drops text positions on screen.
  • Fixed a Live Text overlay that could block typing in chat.
  • The chat preset no longer resets to default when you send, and duplicate conversation rows in the sidebar are gone.
  • Fixed GitHub and Gemini connection errors.

💨 Lighter and faster

  • Lower capture overhead: screenpipe uses less memory.

🔐 Stronger privacy

The model that removes sensitive information before anything is stored got meaningfully better.

  • The text redaction model now catches far more secrets: API keys, access tokens, and connection strings that the previous version could miss. Still fully on-device, in single-digit milliseconds.
  • The on-screen image redaction model detects more sensitive information on real-world screens.
  • Long screens and documents are now fully covered: sensitive information past the first part of the text is no longer skipped.
  • Privacy settings are merged into one clear panel, so you can choose exactly what gets removed.

We also published a live demo you can try.

⭐️ Small improvements

  • Attach documents (PDF, Word, and more) directly into chat.
  • Each chat keeps its own draft, so a half-written message never leaks into another conversation.
  • Capture short bursts in HD. For important meetings you want to review later, record at 30 fps.
